Terezin
(Theresienstadt)
Terezin is the largest Fortress

It was a garrison town housing his troupes and
was named after his mother,
Empress Maria Theresia.
Town Plan
On the plan you can see the mighty fortress walls!
After the Austrian monarchy ceased to rule,
it was still used as a garrison by the Czech government,
later by the German National Socialists (Nazis),
when these parts were annexed to the German Reich.
They turned the whole town into
a Ghetto for Jewish people
(mainly from Prague, but also from the
rest of the Czech Republic)
from 1941 - 1945!
More than 30.000 people died there
of famine, sickness and torture).
You may visit the GHETTO- MUSEUM
